Discovery Kids (Latam) phase 2

Post launch I collaborated with another designer on enhanced features that could drive engagement and encourage repeat visits. We also worked on concepts that would incentivise more users to sign in to the website and apps with their cable providers credentials as learning more about users was a key objective of the business.

Notifications

A feature that was built into the backend was the ability to serve push notifications for apps as well as a feed of notifications on all platforms. These were automatic for new and expiring content and manual items. We added this functionality to the website and apps to create more engagement.

Search

We were able to introduce a search function into the website and apps. I designed this as an overlay that could be filtered by content types, would offer suggestions for no results to encourage alternative viewing and would display locked content to non logged in users to encourage users to do so.

Dkids club

We looked at ways of making logging in more enticing and created the concept of an exclusive club and touch points for incentivising log in. However there was not scope to develop this further.

Playlists

This would be curated playlists, a simple way of offering video playlists without too much effort on the users part with the option for parents and older kids to create playlists.

User generated playlists

We looked at the option of user generated playlists. Our conclusion was that this was an option that would require further research of user needs and playlists were not developed in this phase of features.

Timer for parents

This was a feature we explored for apps that allowed parents to set a time limit for viewing videos if required but it was not chosen for development as not so much of a priority.

Promoting content

We looked at more playful ways of promoting content such as a surprise video and ‘Game of the week’

Oi / Discovery Go

Discovery did a deal with one of their affiliate cable providers to offer locked content to their internet only providers. This was to be different locked content so ended up to be a bit of a ux challenge so we tried thinking of different solutions before the decision was made to create a re-skinned website with alternative colour scheme.
